Attendance: Arriving promptly to class, coming fully prepared, participating actively in the discussions and activities are important components of this part of your grade for the course. Tardiness and absences will affect your final grade. Any student who is absent more than 1/6 of the course sessions will be dropped from the course. In such case a final grade of WF is given (administrative withdrawal which is a 40) in the course according to the University of Balamand policies (see catalogue 2005-2006 page 51). Tardiness for class or clinical conference for more than 15 minutes can result in considering the student absent for class. Persistent tardiness and lack of preparedness for class can result in a lowered grade for “Professionalism/Participation”.
Due Dates: All assignments are to be completed by the scheduled time (the beginning of the class period during which the assignment is due). If a student is unable to complete the assignment by the scheduled time, he or she must obtain the approval of the instructor prior to the due date to make alternate arrangements. Failure to notify the instructor and make alternate arrangements may result in a zero score on the assignment. All assignments are to be the student’s own work.
All assignments, exams, and clinical hours must be completed by the date on which the semester ends. In exceptional cases and with the approval of the instructor and/or the dean, a student may be allowed to make up incomplete work within a period on one month after the beginning of the next regular semester. Failure to complete the requirements of the course within the period specified will result in a grade "zero" for the missing work with the course grade computed accordingly. Failure to make-up missing a final examination or clinical/lab hours will result in a grade of "40" in the course (University of Balamand Catalogue page 2005-2006 page 51).
Withdrawal: you may withdraw from a course not later than 10 weeks after the start of the semester (see Catalogue 2005-2006 page 52 for more details).
Academic Integrity: The University of Balamand is committed to a policy of honesty in academic affairs. The maintenance of academic integrity and quality education is the responsibility of each student at the University of Balamand. Cheating or plagiarism in connection with an academic program is an offense for which a student will be expelled, suspended, or disciplined.
Academic dishonesty is a serious offense which diminishes the quality of scholarship and defrauds those who depend upon the integrity of the educational system. Academic dishonesty may result in removal form the course with a grade of "40". Additionally the instructor may request disciplinary action through the disciplinary committee, failure of the course and/or academic probation up to and including dismissal from the graduate program. (see UOB catalogue page 52)
Academic dishonesty includes:
Cheating: Whereby non- permissible written, visual or oral material is obtained from another student and used in examinations, course assignments or projects. The unauthorized possession or use of course related material may also constitute cheating. (UOB, catalogue page 52)
Students completing any examination should assume that external assistance (e.g. books, notes, calculators, and conversations with others) is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the instructor.
Students may not allow others to conduct research or prepare work for them.
Substantial portions of the same academic work may not be submitted for credit in more than one course.
Fabrication: Intentional falsification or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise.
Facilitating academic dishonesty: Intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another commit an act of academic dishonesty.
Plagiarism: Intentionally or knowingly representing the words, ideas, or work of another as one’s own in any academic exercise without any indication of the source.
